Slice of Life: My fifth Semester at UPH (A bit Random hahah)

Hi, Hana is back to blogging bussiness :). I am sorry for the quiet days on this blog lately. I got problem with my donggle, and it was successfully making me upset. I lost 150k rupiahs for nothing! >,<. Anyway, everything is allright now, my donggle is back to normal now, and as slow as usual ( Oh, my!). In this entry i wanna show you about my college life, i am about to enter my 6th semester now. Which means, i have spent 2,5 years studying in UPH. I would say, studying at UPH has been fun :) I got many experiences, nice lecturers, awesome friends, and i have changed to a better person.

Pelita Harapan University is located in Surabaya. Well, we have another campus in Jakarta, but my campus is in Surabaya. It has three towers now, and about 6 floors for each tower.

If you go inside and goes to the highest floor, you will see a beautiful view of Surabaya City. Neat :)

Other than that, this campus is located very close to the mall. Hohohoho, so everytime i need something, from pen, umbrella, pillow, clothes (pretty much everything!) i just need to go down and shop inside the malls. And so far, having campus near the mall brings me benefits. For example, when i have observation and interview class, i dont need to go far to observe, i just need to go to CITO and observe the people who shop there. And, i will be the first person who knows about big discount and special prices! hehehe 

Hmm, this semester had been very challenging to me :(. With work and all, i have been like a sleepwalker inside the class. My priority messed up. Hmm, i would rate my performance this semester as my worst performance so far. Anyway, i am just glad that my 5th semester is over now. And i kinda figured out how to cope with crazy schedule and tight times. I cant wait to start my 6th semester and pay back what i have lost on my 5th.

My favorite class this semester is :

Character development class! Great class with a great lecturer. At first i thought this class was going to be boring, but it is not. I learn and fetch quite a big deal about life thru this class. Let me tell you why :) Here we discuss a lot about our life goal, courtship ( hohoho), characters, what is the value of life, and many other things. We even required to do 6 community services. Those community services were fun!

Then, my favorite compulsory book of this semester is:

Whooo, this is a compulsory book from my character development class. Here i found so many interesting yet inspiring stories and quotes. And these belows are stuffs that i bring everyday :)

This is one of my purse, it is big, i ussually just throw everything inside :) I carry this around from day to night, since sometimes i dont have time to come home and change purse :). I love the colour, which is dark brown. It matches with almost any colors, and with one of my shoes 

My huge pencil case :). Hehehe. It sorts of like doraemon pocket for me, since i can find everything inside, from pen, mirror, lipgloss, until random things like car toy :) I also love the key chain, it says "MAINE WILDLIFE" as a remembrance of my family in Maine. This kinda superstitious, but this is true. Whenever i see this keychain, i feel happier, more motivated, and more eager to learn :). I remember my dad, who is a professor so i wannabe like him. I remember my sister silvia, alex and my mom in Maine, i wannabe successful so i can go there to meet them one day, or even send them here to Indonesia. Hehehe

I love this shirt! Hehehe, if you study at UPH, you can actually wear t shirt at school, but most of the time i like to wear shirt or blouse more than T shirt.

Book Review : Jane Eyre ( Me gusta!)

    Even that I have read this book several times, I have never grow tire of this Jane Eyre book. Its love story is always dazzling, yet trace a deep impression in my heart. I also fetch good examples and perspectives from the protagonists, and taste some life lessons from the life of Jane Eyre. I always love this kind of classical book, a story where I can learn something, where it contains high moral value, something that is slowly degrading in this modern day world.  

The story mainly tells about the heroine, Jane Eyre, who was a daughter of a clergyman. She was a plain girl, love to read book, smart, impassioned, and in my opinion she was tough. Real tough. Her parents both died when she was really young. She then lived with her aunt, Mrs. Reed, who hated her so much. She felt torture, and injustice while she lived in her aunt`s house. She then sent to Lowood, a half charity school. Here, again she felt solitude and poverty. There were scenes that caught my attention when she lived there. Especially about her dearest friend in Lowood, Helen Burns. She soon died of a typhus, but when she lived, her life taught me about Christian perpectives. Below, I quote some of Helen`s thought, I might not write my thoughts too much, for I keep them myself, but I believe that if you think these quotes through, you will get some enlightments like I do.

“ It is not violence that best overcome hate- nor vengeance that most certainly heals injury. Read the New Testament, and observe what Christ says, and how he acts- make his word your rule, and his conduct your example” (pg 61)

“ He says love your enemies; bless them that curse you; do good to them that hate you and despitefully use you” (pg 61)

“Would you not be happier if you tried to forget her severity, together with the passionate emotions it excited? Life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs. We are and must be, one and all, burdened with faults in this world; but the time will soon come when , I trust, we shall put them off in putting off our corruptible bodies, when debasement and sin will fall from us with this cumbrour frame of flesh, and only spark of the spirit will remain, the impalpable principle of life and thought, pure as when it left Creator to inspire the creature; whence it came it will return – perhaps again to be communicated to some being higher than man – perhaps to pass through gradations of glory, from the pale human soul to brighten to the seraph! Surely it will never, on the contrary, be suffered to degenerate man to fiend? No; I can not believe that. I hold another creedm which no one ever taught me, and which I seldom mention, but in which I delight, and to which I cling; for it extends hope to all. It makes eternity a rest, a mightu home, not a terror and an abyss. Besides, with this creed I can so clearly distinguish between the criminal and his crime; I can so sincerely forgive the first while I abohor the last; with this creed revenge never worries my heart, degradation never too deeply digust me, injustice never crushes me too low. I live in calm, looking to the end” (pg 62)

And these ones below talking about endurance, when Helen tasted the bitterness of life, injustice and obstacles, these were what she said:

It is far better to endure patiently than to commit hasty action whose evil consequences will extend to all connected with you- and besides, the Bible bids us return good for evil (pg 59)

“Yet it would be your duty to bear it, if you could not avoid it. It is weak and silly to say you cannot bear what it is your fate required to bear “( pg 59)

After eight years in Lowood, Jane Eyre advertised and got a job as a governess in Thornfield Hall. She met Mr. Rochester, her employer, which was dark, impassioned, and a little ugly. Against all odds, she fell in love with him, without knowing that Mr. Rochester had already a wife, mad and lunatic, hidden under the third story of the Thornfield Hall. Mr. Rochester himself fell in love with Jane too, his trick to got Jane under his arms were quite funny, fresh, and unexpectable. Tricky just like those Korean movies that we love to watch these days J. Anyway, they were about to get married. In the altar, the wedding canceled and secret about lunatic Mrs.Rochester revealed. It hurted Jane so much, despite of her deep love and fondness towards Mr. Rochester, her principle said she won’t marry a married man and be a mistress. So, she ran away from Thornfield Hall, left everything behind and brought only 20 shillings.

She was very poor. She lived just like a beggar, immaculated, and had nowhere to go. Fortunately, The Rivers helped her. She became a teacher in a charity school. Later in the story, she found out that she had an uncle, rich in Madeira. The uncle passed away and she got 20000 pounds legacy. She also found out that the Rivers were her cousins. She kindly divided her legacy to four part and gave it to her cousins. Do you see here, pals? She wasn’t greedy, she valued kinship far more than money, which teach me another good value of life.

Jane never forgets about Mr. Rochester.So did Mr Rochester. They both lived in vain and tears everyday. In the end, she found out that Mr Rochester`s lunatic wife put Thornfield Hall in the fire. She then jumped from her third story apartment. Died with her brain scattered. Everything was ruined, and Mr Rochester had become a complete handicapped. Blind and crippled. Jane came back to see Mr. Rochester. Despite of his unfortunate condition, Jane approved him, loved him dearly, even agreed to marry him. She was his vision, his right hand. She never grew tired taking care of her dear husband.

                Isnt it hard to live a love like this? A love where you accept your dearest one even in the worst condition. Distance and obstacles ever tear them apart, but pure love is not degradable. Jane`s heart stays to be Mr Rochester`s, vice versa. There are so many more values, warm love story, and knowledge that I attained from this book which I do not write here today. Too many. This is a very nice book. A book that worth every penny and time J.

FASHION: What to wear to church :)

Hi hiiii.. Menanggapi postingan Ima di El- device tentang cara berpakaian buruk di gereja, aku bikin entri ini untuk kalian. Betul seperti kata Ima, akhir - akhir ini emang sering banget kuliat cewek - cewek yang ke gereja pake rok mini, dan hotpants. Terus yang cowok cuma pakai sandal jepit dan celana pendek. >.<

Aku punya cerita lho tentang hal ini. Hehehe di kos - kosanku, suatu hari aku pernah ditanyain sama mbak Pipit, temen di kosku yang lama.
Mbak pipit : " Han, orang kristen itu kalau ke gereja ngapain aja sih? Nyanyi nyanyi ya?'
Aku jawab " Iya mbak, kita kalau di gereja cara nyembah Tuhan pakai lagu, doa, ndengerin ceramah."
Mbak pipit :"Lha kalau di gereja itu boleh pakek baju apa aja ya?"
Hana :" Heh, maksude apa aja?"
Mbak pipit : Maaf lho ya, ndak bermaksud mbandingin atau nyinggung. Kalo islam kan kalo mau ke masjid pakai busana muslim , bawa sajadah, bawa mukenah. Tertutup semua gitu lho. Tak liat - liat, kalo minggu pagi , cewek cewek yang kos di ( -----------------) itu lho, kok pakek rok mini, high heels an.. Gakpopo ta ngunu iku ( gakpapa ta seperti itu)?
Hana  : (Bingung - bingung) Ya sebenere gak pantes lha mbak, tergantung orange. Sebenere ya harus pakaian seng nggenah (baik).
Mbak pipit : Iyo, aku risih ngunu ndelok e ( Aku risih melihatnya). Lak jalan yo disuit - suit padahal. Ga risih ngono mbak e iku.
Hana : ( tersenyum pait)

Nah itu, teman - teman, kalau kita pakai baju mini - mini atau terlalu santai ke gereja. Kita jadi BATU SANDUNGAN.. Hwaaaa.. Gak cuma buat sesama jemaat di gereja, tapi buat orang di luar gereja juga. >.<. Waa, ga memuliakan Tuhan dong.
Belum lagi, waktu kamu pakai baju kayak gitu, ada anak sekolah minggu yang niru - niru. Maka jadilah, gereja lama - lama jadi mall.

Nah, ini sedikit inspirasi buat kamu cewek - cewek tentang gaya yang pantas untuk ke gereja. Pakai baju yang pantas ndak harus selalu jelek kok, kamu bisa tetep cantik dan fashionable.

Nah ini buat cewek - cewek yang suka gaya casual dan sporty

P.S: Waktu kebaktian topinya dilepas yaa hiihihi kalau nggak, orang yang duduk di belakang kalian ga bisa keliatan layar LCDnya hehehe
Tips untuk tampil sporty dan casual:
Do`s
1. Pilih bahan kain katun karena gampang menyerap keringat
2. Pilih warna cute seperti pink, biru, hijau, untuk menambah kesan playful dan segar
3. Hehehe kalau bosen pakai t shirt, kalian bisa tambahkan cardigan (gambar 1), dan vest ( gambar 2 dan 3)
t shirt langsung terlihat berbeda deh :)
4. Kalau mau ke gereja padukan baju - baju di atas dengan celana jeans panjang, atau celana khaki panjang :)


Mau tampil feminime dan cute?
Bisa kok

Tips untuk tampil feminim:
Do:
1. Pilih warna - warna lembut atau pastel, kalau kamu suka, kamu bisa pakai motif bunga - bunga.
2. Seperti contoh baju nomor dua dan empat, baju yang feminim terlihat lebih cute dengan aksen manik - manik dan korsase.
3. Yang terpenting dari baju yang feminim adalah potongan bajunya dan bahan kainnya :). Hehehe. Puffy sleeves kayak gambar keempat adalah potongan baju yang cewek banget. V neck ( gambar 1) bikin leher kelihatan lebih jenjang dan kamu jadi keliatan lebih anggun. Chiffon , sutra, cashmere, adalah salah satu bahan kain yang cewek banget.
4. Padu padankan baju di atas dengan rok selutut atau celana panjang kalau ke gereja
Nih, ada banyak pilihan dan macam - macam warna jeans dan rok. Kamu ga bakal bosen lha.

1. Waktu milih leher V, jangan yang rendah banget yaa. Hehehehe

Nah, sekarang yang buat cowok :)


Ya pakek kemeja dan polo shirt pun bisa tampak keren, kan? Untuk padu padannya kalian bisa pakai celana panjang :) Celana panjang bisa macam - macam. buat yang berani pakai warna gonjreng, kalian bisa pilih celana seperti nomor 3. Terus, yang sporty atau casual, nomor 2 dan 3 paling cocok :). Terakhir? yang suka formal wear, no 1 adalah celana yang pas.
